Poggio al Vento is the perfect base to enjoy the wonders offered by the Maremma and its beautiful landscapes.
A characteristic Maremman town, known by locals as the Spia della Maremma (Spy of the Maremma) for its elevated position and views of the entire Maremma, Manciano sits on one of the most important archaeological sites in Tuscany.
The two churches in the village, San Leonardo and Santissima Annunziata, were built in medieval times and preserve paintings by Pietro Aldi and Paride Pascucci, two local, but fairly famous artists. Other sites not to be missed are the Aldobrandeschi Fortress, which houses Manciano’s Town Hall, and the fountain in Piazza Garibaldi, built in an Art Nouveau style to celebrate the arrival of running water from the Fiora River.
Another fantastic attraction in the town is the Museum of Prehistory and Early History of the Fiora Valley, which collects and exhibits artefacts found in the necropolises of Pitigliano, Sovana and the nearby town of Poggio Buco.
